Building a Solid Safety Line: Exploring the “Intelligent Switch” of Modern Firefighting Systems—The Deluge Valve

دسامبر 27, 2025

Among numerous fire safety devices, there is a key component known as the system’s “intelligent switch.” It stands silently on standby, but responds instantly in case of fire, directing water flow to extinguish the blaze—this is the deluge alarm valve. As the core control component of automatic sprinkler systems, the technological innovation and reliable application of deluge valves are a crucial cornerstone for protecting the safety of industrial and commercial sites.

Core Hub, Protecting High-Risk Locations

The deluge valve is not a simple valve, but a precision device with multiple functions including automatic control, alarm, and interlocking pump start-up. Its core working principle lies in achieving instantaneous and rapid opening through pressure relief in the control chamber. Once activated, all connected sprinklers will spray water simultaneously, creating a large-area “man-made rainstorm” for rapid fire control and extinguishing. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for highly dangerous locations such as wineries, power plants, oil depots, and chemical facilities where the fire risk is high and rapid fire suppression is required.

Technological Evolution: From Reliable Machinery to Smart IoT

Traditional diaphragm deluge valves are widely used due to their simple structure and reliable safety. They typically feature three control methods: electrical, manual, and actuated piping, ensuring reliable activation in any emergency. With technological advancements, leading companies in the industry are driving product development towards intelligence and modularity. For example, intelligent deluge alarm skid-mounted systems integrating IoT technology have emerged, enabling remote status monitoring, cloud data management, and intelligent temperature control, significantly improving system operation and maintenance efficiency and environmental adaptability.

Market Recognition and Standards Support

The importance of deluge valves is evident in major engineering projects. Recently, deluge valves were selected as key procurement equipment in a public tender for a large international oil refinery project, demonstrating their indispensable role in modern industrial construction. Furthermore, to ensure product quality, the design and production of deluge valves must strictly adhere to national standards (such as GB 5135.5), with clear specifications for rated working pressure (usually not less than 1.2 MPa), material corrosion resistance, and opening/closing time. Fire safety inspection departments also have a series of detailed requirements for its installation, such as the number of sprinklers controlled by a single valve, the installation environment, and the installation of hydraulic alarm bells, to ensure its reliability in final use.

From sophisticated mechanical structures to cutting-edge intelligent systems, the evolution of deluge valves has always revolved around the core mission of “rapid response and absolute reliability.” It stands silently at the critical nodes of the fire protection network, always ready to act instantly to protect life and property.
